Will Fort McMurray make it to the top 10 or even 20 list of the World's Most Famous Arches with their very own Northern Lights Gateway Arch?
The World's 10 Most Famous Arches ...
1. Arc de Triumph, Paris, France
2. The Gateway Arch, St. Louis, United States
3. Rua Augusta Arch, Lisbon, Portugal
4. Arch of Cinquantenaire, Brussles, Belgium
5. Arc de Triomf, Barcelona, Spain
6. Patuxai, Vientiane, Laos
7. Arch of Constantine, Rome, Italy
8. India Gate, New Delhi, India
9. Arch of Triumph, Pyongyang, North Korea
10. Siegestor (Victory Gate), Munich, Germany
That's a pretty impressive list ... to be on it would be amazing! This Northern Lights Gateway Arch (a name I have affectionately chosen to call it) has been a long time in the making ... we (literally) have been under siege of the construction for 5 years ... going on 6 next year due to all the delays ... but I can now see this beauty from my front window .... her and the 4 lanes leading to Waterways and Draper Road. I am gritting my teeth, I mean, grinning and baring the years of disruption to our neighborhood (and cracks in our foundation) in hopes all the promised parks and green space we are trading for to have the Saline Creek Parkway run by our door steps, through what used to be a sleepy field leading to the river banks, will be created and landscaped next year. I am not holding my breath.
Sounds like this portion of Phase 1 rang in at a tune of $74,175,000.00 about 1/2 of which the Alberta Government kicked in for. I am pleased to see some of the royalties are being returned. I can't imagine the price tag, though, for the next phase ... the geo-technical nightmare alone to try to complete Phase 2 .... ouch! Somehow, I can't see the traffic congestion on highway 63 easing via the Saline Creek Parkway anytime soon, but WOW, do we have an amazing entrance into Waterways and Draper! Hope you get a chance to make it down to see it! It really is fitting since we are neighbors to the largest dark sky preserve in the world ... we are truly a Northern Lights Gateway. I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can grab some more pics ... she is awesome to see at night!
